Jonathan Scott HARMONIUM

Tom Scott PIANO

Join the SCOTT BROTHERS DUO on a musical journey which unites a Steinway piano and an original 1880 Mustel harmonium to transport the listener back to a sound which the world forgot. DUOS FOR HARMONIUM & PIANO complements youthful works by Franck, Saint-Saëns and Guilmant with transcriptions of orchestral works to fully display the glorious sound of this uniquely expressive combination.

In 1842 Alexandre Debain of Paris , patented the name “Harmonium” for a musical instrument which possessed the tonal qualities of a pipe organ and the expressive control of a string instrument. The craftsmanship of Victor Mustel’s Parisian workshop took the harmonium to new artistic heights and its combination with piano was the inspiration for music by some of the greatest composers. The enigmatic expression of the harmonium and the percussive grandeur of the piano forms an imposing duo and from the awe-inspiring 6 Duos by Saint-Saëns, to the devastatingly poignant Fauré Après un rêve, the listener cannot fail to be moved on every emotional level.

This CD is beautifully presented in a six panel pack with informative booklet containing full programme notes and harmonium specification.
